Winning the ‘Startup Idea
Contest Using Spatial Information’

Freegrow Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Young-sik) won the Excellence Award of the Secretary-General of the Large, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Agricultural Fisheries Cooperation Foundation at the 8th Digital Contest for Start-up Ideas Using Spatial Information held by LX Korea Land Information Corporation (LX Corporation) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The contest’s award ceremony was held on the 6th floor of the LX Seoul Regional Headquarters on the 26th.

This contest is an event to discover ideas using spatial information to revitalize the spatial information industry and create a start-up ecosystem. Since 2017, LX Corporation and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport have established the LX Space Dream Center in Seoul and held a spatial information start-up idea contest to select 10 excellent companies every year and provide services such as funds, space, and consulting.

Accordingly, along with the prize money of 10 million won, FreeGrow will receive free space for one year in the LX Space Dream Center (Seoul), and one-stop support for education, technology protection, and domestic and international marketing.

The idea submitted by Freegrow Co., Ltd., “Smart Space Management Solution Using an Integrated Indoor Management Platform,” is a service that can manage indoor space information on one platform. You can upload an indoor map of the building to the “GrowStudio” and set a moving route by registering information on POI such as facilities and stores in the building. Through the indoor navigation “GrowMaps,” built as a GrowStudio, building users can easily receive card-view indoor route guidance with URL or QR code without having to install a separate app. In addition, it provides floating population analysis using UWB and mobile BLE communication, and if UWB equipment is added, more precise location positioning is possible.

We hope that the LX Space Dream Center will grow into a base center for the continuous growth and scale-up of big data and AI start-ups that combine spatial information, said Choi Gyumyung, vice president of LX Corporation.

Kim Young-sik, CEO of Freegrow, said, “We are pleased to have established a foundation for cooperation with LX Korea Land Information Corporation through this award, and we will make efforts to further revitalize the spatial information business by utilizing various supports.” He added, “We will carry out intensive sales activities to expand Frog’s integrated indoor management platform more widely in large complex facilities such as smart buildings and exhibitions.”

Busan start-up company Freegrow Co., Ltd. is a start-up that provides an indoor location service platform that can produce and manage indoor maps and an ultra-precise indoor positioning solution that applies ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. Recently, it was selected by TIPS in 2023, a technology start-up support project, and received about 500 million won in R&D funding. It was selected by the Busan Facilities Corporation as the 2023 Public Institution Test Bed Support Project to strengthen the competitiveness of start-ups and support early public sector sales.
